| Q |
Is there any problem in it's performance with a CD-ROM operation?
| A |
When starting, it will take slightly longer as compared to a hard disk. However, we have narrowed it down to the necessary functions, and we use the process of caching to the memory and disk. Hence the CD-ROM hardly runs during operation. Therefore we have not experienced any cases of problems due to response deterioration.

| Q |
Can the CD-ROM be ejected during operation?
| A |
No. Reading from the CD-ROM is constantly done.
| Q |
I have a CD-ROM but it does not support CD-ROM start up.
| A |
Create a FD for start up. After starting up by the FD, you can then switch to CD-ROM operation.
| Q |
Can the computer to be used for Windows too?
| A |
It will only be used as a "Radish" server.
| Q |
How many disks do I require?
| A |
You can run with only 1 disk. However, it is advisable to prepare one more disk for backup purposes. Ideally, if you only have a built-in IDE, it is advisable to prepare 3 disks, 2 for mirroring and 1 for backup.

| Q |
Can authorization settings be made per file basis?
| A |
A To reduce complications, authorization settings is done per shared folder basis. We believe that by using the shared folders by subdividing them, this level of authorization should be sufficient.

| Q |
Will there be any problem using Japanese?
| A |
Absolutely no problems for file names and folder names (of course contents too). However, only English alphanumeric letters are required for username, computer name, shared folders, and printer names.
| Q |
Currently WindowsNT/2000 domain control is being used, can they coexist?
| A |
Yes. Only the username needs to be registered in "Radish". As for the password, you may set it to go and check and authenticate in the existing NT/2000 domain server.
It does not support the 2000 active directory. Also, it can not become a secondary domain controller.

| Q |
What is the file server software?
| A |
A software based on samba is being used. Hence there are slight differences compared to Windows servers.
| Q |
Since Linux is being used, do I need a Linux printer driver?
| A |
"Radish" is doing only spool management. For a Windows client, install a Windows driver.
| Q |
What is the file system?
| A |
Linux standard ext3 is used in the Radish. Therefore if you connect the hard disk which is used under Radish to a Linux-OS, you can read all files in the disk without Radish.
| Q |
What kind of printers can be used?
| A |
Basically parallel port and TCP/IP connection printers are ok. Some printers which need to communicate with a Windows printer driver may not be usable. USB interfaced printers can't connect to "Radish", too.

| Q |
I have a very old PC. Can I use it?
| A |
Unless a few hundred users access the file server simultaneously, such a big CPU power is unnecessary. For example if you have a computer with Pentium 200MHz, and a 32Mbyte memory and install a low costing large capacity disk, it will be sufficient enough to operate as a file server. If you have an old computer that has disk size limitations, it is advisable to use a IDE-RAID card like Promise FastTrackTX2000.
| Q |
I would like to use a high performance computer because quite a number of users will be making access.
| A |
You may use a so called server computer. Currently, we have installation records for SCSI-RAID computers like IBM xSeries220, Compaq Proliant ML370.(Tape drive is not supported)
* It is advisable to use the evaluation version beforehand to reconfirm.
| Q |
Can a CPU other than Intel be used?
| A |
Basically K6III, Duaron, Crusoe can be used. It is confirmed that it does not run on Athlon. Kindly conduct a test run using the evaluation version.
| Q |
What about version upgrading if a security hole is found?
| A |
Depending on the severity of the security hole, if it requires urgency, we will promptly release a newer version. It will be in a downloadable CD-ROM image format file. All you need to do is replace the CD-ROM to the upgraded one.

| Q |
What about Linux license problems with SCO?
| A |
We currently await the outcome. Although it is unlikely that Linux will lose, in the event that license fees will be charged, it is inevitable to revise prices.
